The most common white wine varieties are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling, and also encompasses the ever popular Rose.

The aroma generally ranges from pear to pineapple to apples depending on the grapes used. When it comes to flavour, most people would say that White wines taste refreshing and light. They also have a higher acidity level than red wines which makes them perfect for summer days when you want something light and refreshing, either with food or just by itself!

Chardonnay

Depending on where your Chardonnay is from you could either get one that has hints of vanilla and butter, or one with more of a citrus taste if it is a cool climate wine. Most chardonnay’s are improved in their oak barrels.

Rose

Rose wines have a slight pink tinge because the grape skins are left to soak in the wine as it’s fermenting for a short period of time. With a rose you can expect a fruity taste and an aroma that reminds you of a bouquet of flowers.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc would have to be the most popular dry white wine variety in Australia. When served slightly chilled it gives off a crisp, fresh taste.

Pinot Gris & Grigio

These wines are rarely aged in oak. A quality pinot grigio will be light and crisp, whilst a pinot gris has a more full bodied flavour

Riesling

Supple tannins make Merlot an approachable wine, with lighter plum and blue fruit notes than its  Cabernet cousin.

Moscato

Muscat grapes have high residual sugar but low acid, both of which contribute to Moscato’s signature sweet taste, a fragrant aroma of fruit such as peach, apricot, and orangey citrus; and delicate floral notes such as rose petal and elderflower
