Indeed many of the world’s best examples sell for staggering amounts (in the hundreds), but that doesn’t mean reasonably priced pinot gems don’t exist.

Best’s Great Western Pinot Noir
The Grampians is not the first place that comes to mind when you think of pinot noir, but Best’s have in their nursery block what are thought to be the oldest pinot noir vines in the world!
The fruit for this wine comes from 1980 and 1987 Pinot Noir plantings in the Concongella vineyards, at Best’s Great Western and the 1997 plantings at the elevated vineyard at Rhymney. It’s Medium bodied, supple and packed with dark cherry, savoury herb and earthy spice notes.
Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir
From one of the best value producers in Australia, the Hoddles Creek pinot noir is hand-picked from estate fruit in the Yarra Valley. A lively and finessed pinot noir with great complexity and drinkability at a modest price, year in-year out, this is a must for all pinot lovers – on a budget or not.
Rob Hall Pinot Noir
Rob Hall grew up in the Yarra Valley township of Healsville, and since joining the wine industry full time in 1999 he has worked with some of the most noted wineries in the region, including 10 vintages as winemaker at the iconic Mount Mary winery.
Now operating under his own label, Rob continues to craft quality driven wines and his pinot noir certainly over delivers. Smooth and Intensly flavoured with dark cherry, earthy rhubarb, dried herb and a touch of spice.

After working in the wine industry for over 40 years for the likes of Penfolds, Seppelt and Mildara Blass, Mike and wife Judy purchased a property in Kenton Valley, near Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills, in 1998. Since then they have set the benchmark for producing quality wine from estate grown fruit, at outstanding prices.
Mike’s pinot noir is elegant, with tangy dark cherry fruit, subtle undergrowth, lifted floral notes and a hint of spice. It’s a whole lot of pinot for under $20!
